The role each person plays in a relationship extends to their sex life. After stoma surgery, those roles may change or be affected.
Many factors influence the role each person plays in a couple’s sex life. Each sexual role tends to settle into a pattern that works for the relationship. For example, a common role is one person being most likely to initiate sex.
What does this have to do with stoma surgery? Well, sexual roles can be altered after a life-changing event like stoma surgery. They can become fuzzy and uncertain, particularly when communication about topics like sex is difficult.
To read more about sexual roles and how they may change following illness or injury, read the “Roles” section of our “Your Sexual Self After Stoma Surgery” booklet.
